God’s Name

God’s Name is YHWH, or “I Am”, rendered “the LORD” in most English translations. God’s name is above every name and everything that can be named. His name is above every power, natural or spiritual, every government or authority, every sickness or cancer, every fear or circumstance. In Psalm 135 the worship leader sings, Praise the name of the LORD…Sing praises to His name, for it is lovely (NAS), pleasant (NIV), wonderful (NLT), gracious (RSV), kind (TEV),
and beautiful (MSG)!
We in the Church get to declare His amazing name and ways to the world Deut 32:3; Ps 8:1.

His name is unique.  He is not Baal, Shiva, Buddha, Baha u llah, Krishna, or Allah of Islam.  In the book of Isaiah God says, I am the LORD, that is My name; I will not give My glory to another (42:8)”, “I, even I, am the LORD; And there is no saviour besides Me (43:11)” and “I am the LORD, and there is no other; Besides Me there is no God (45:5)”.

And God is love 1John 4:8.  That love compelled Him to send His own Son to die in our place, so sin could no longer separate us from His love.  His Son’s name is Jesus, Yeshua, meaning, “The LORD is Salvation”, or “I Am Salvation”.  What a powerful announcement! God says His name is Salvation! “There is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved” Acts 4:12.  “And everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved” Acts 2:21.

This redemptive adventure, this history of mankind, is first of all about the LORD; how astonishingly good and strong He is.  If we love the LORD, we bear a beautiful name!  Above all things, at FlameTree, we seek to lift up the name of Jesus and celebrate His Kingdom.
